The B-log
Australia - Great Ocean Road
We arrived at a windy and beautiful south coast. The weather forecast predicted rain but once again we were lucky. It didn´t rain… That much. We´ve seen monstrous waves, surfers riding those monsters, a bunch of sleepy koalas and stunning coastal rainforests. And we made the rookie mistake of almost running out of petrol in between the "villages" along the road. We learned the lesson that a "village" on the map can consist of one house... Let´s just say it was a very exciting two kilometers before we found a tap.
Some day we would like to be able to surf at Bell´s beach. Just like Bodi. The Great Ocean Road is great and it made us want to learn how to surf even more. So Sunday, we´re flying to Noosa. Surf´s up. Dude.
Australia - Grampians National Park
Back in an even smaller campervan we headed for Grampians National Park. Once arriving at the campground we were welcomed by a bunch of kangaroos, emus and thousands of screaming birds. And a couple of people. Not screaming though. After our first bouldering session we changed our original plan. Four days turned to five. We eventually stayed a week. The climbing and the surroundings here are spectacular! There is everything from big caves and juggy roof climbing to vertical walls with big slopers and amazing friction. Even the super easy problems are awesome. Petra liked it! We shredded our fingers for six days and the beard grew even bigger. Now we´re having lazy days along Great Ocean Road. The question is... Should Andreas shave his hairy face?
Australia - Melbourne
During our time in Sydney, people told us "If you like Sydney, you are going to love Melbourne". With high expectations we flew down, after paying a shit load of money for our overweight bags, and got picked up by Mattias and Kirsty. We left our destiny in their hands and now we do love Melbourne. This weekend has been all about beer. Mattias´s tasty home brewed beer and The Good Beer Week festival. 12 hours of beer tasting and now we can´t wait to get our hands on a glass o wine. We also went to a football game. Not the traditional one but Australian football. It looks like a mix of rugby, handball, soccer, American football and the game is played on a cricket field. We had pie. And beer. Petra also had her first dumplings. She loved it. Melbourne. Got to love Melbourne.
New campervan pickup and off to The Grampians and the Great Ocean Road. Back in lovely Melbourne in 10 days.
Australia - Sydney
Halfway through our journey. New country, new possibilities. Starting with Sydney and not a bad start. We walked a 1000 kilometers. At least. We drank a 1000 lattes and had a 1000 ice creams. At least. Checked out all the super cool areas and buildings, chilled out at Bondi beach, looked out for thousands of running people and got freaked out by all the huge spider webs in the Botanical garden. Sydney. Got to love it.
New Zealand - Auckland
Arriving at Liz´s home in Mission Bay, ten minutes from down town Auckland, with our own private room (or Liz´s room), heating, hot shower and a fluffy cat made our start in Auckland awesome. When Liz decided to be our private guide for the next three days it became even better. She drove us all over town, up and down the volcanoes surrounding the city, showed us the big city night life and even entertained us with live Mariachi music. Hats, boots and everything. We had tacos. And margaritas. She also made us breakfast with all kinds of fruits from their garden. Including kiwi. The fruit. Not the bird. We now feel well rested, clean and prepared for a new country.
