Interview with Sigmas CEO Mr Kazuto Yamaki

Fotosidan had the oppurtunity to make interview with Mr Kazuto Yamaki, CEO of Sigma Optics. Among many things he talks about how Sigma made it possible to make a 12-24/4 which is noticeably less expensive then the Canon 11-24/4 lens. he also elaborate on how the Sigma 85/1.4 compares to Zeiss Otus 85/1.4 mm and how they got the impulse to start with Cine lenses.

With his sicerity and candor Mr Kazuto Yamaki is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding company executives in the camera business to interview. He start out by telling the story of How Sigma Optics came about in the early 1960:s and how one of their earliest design successes was the rear mounted teleconverters.

At about 7 min, 50 sec into the video Mr Yamaki talks about the development of the 12-24/4 and how that came about only after working out a entirely new process for molding necessary to make the large aspherical elements required for this lens.

At about 12 min 10 sec into the video you get to hear about how Sigma studied the Zeiss Otus 85/1.4 when they developed their 85/1.4 Art.

At about 14 min 25 sec into the video Mr Yamaki talk about their new 500/4 Sport and what they did to make it a relatively light design.

Towards the end we get to hear how the Sigma 18-35/1.8 Art played a crucial role in fueling SIgmas interest in a Cine line of lenses.
