Nephentes Laughing - Tuija Lindström

'Nepenthes are carnivorous plants in the monotypic family Nepenthaceae. The cups hanging down from the stem easily distinguish the plant. Nepenthes have been widely recognised within botanical history, for example by Linné in the 1738 work Hortus Cliffortianus, as well as within literature. Writers such as Charles Baudelaire and Edgar Allen Poe have used the term. In Greek mythology the plant is referred to as a drug of forgetfulness.'

Tuija Lindström, born 1950 in Finland has since the 1980ies had an extensive career within photography based art in Sweden and internationally, including exhibitions in Europe and the US. In Stockholm, Liljevalchs Konsthall presented a major mid career exhibition in 2004. Lindström’s work makes part of both private and public collections, such as the Moderna Museet, Stockholm and Kiasma, Finland. For a period of ten years Lindström held down a position as Professor at the School of Photography, University of Gothenburg.
