We are all different, but my go-to base lens for ALL my jobs is always the Canon 24-70 (2.8).
I use it on both my full frame cameras and crop sensor cameras.
Yes it might be slightly expensive so get a second hand instead of a new.
There is a reason why many pro-photographers use this all the time.... It is a solid work horse and a great performer.
