Batterier under "kalla" förhållanden...

Har varit ute ett par kvällar och tagit lite bilder nu under hösten och fram mot vintern..
Har lagt märke till att jag får ut ca 1/3 av mina batterier under "kalla" tider.

Normalt säger vi att jag kan ta ca 100 bilder, nu hamnar jag på ca 30 st.

På nätterna brukar jag fota med långa slutartider som 0-5 min. Självklart tar detta mer kräm än ta bilder på 1/125.

Men nu ikväll ex. - två timmar ute, gick åt 3 set(4x1600mah) på min Fuji s2pro, det är vad jag brukar använda på en hel dag!

Är detta normalt (minns inte om min förra S1pro tog extra mkt under vintern)?!

Jag vet att batterier ska ge sämre prestanda under kalla förhållande, men inte 30% ?

Någon som kan något om detta, skulle uppskatta lite info kring området. tack på förhand!

no, 30% sounds a little too low. I've read a fair bit about this and while battery performance is always somewhat impaired by cold conditions, it should not impair performance to that extent.
I cannot be any more accurate as "cold weather" does not indicate any specific ambient temperature, but Bjorn Rorslett works alot in the Norwegian mountain areas where temperatures now are most certainly well into the minus degrees Celsius, and he does not report any "dramatic" drop in battery performance with the D1X/H (I know I've read this on his site or in an article he wrote somewhere, but haven't the link to hand). Nor do any of the guys I know up in Canada.
That said, they all use bodies of the D1 derivitive, which are more robustly built than the S2/D100 bodies and perhaps better suited for this kind of work.
BUT....all said, a 70% drop in performance is a little too much to swallow I'd call the service department and ask one of the repair guys. Don't ask customer service as they'll just fob you off with the usual: "Oh yeah, that's perfectly normal" crap!;-)

Am going to do a big test in this, cause am going to Norway in the moutains in januari, so maybe then my 32 batteries wont last a day =))) cause it´s only 0 C. at the moment, it bet it will be like -15 in Norway =) ( 10 shots then change battery?!) hehe..

Well now am carging all of my batteries, so i´ll do a full test att Room tempetur/24C and swedish lovely nov weather at 0C ! heh.

yes, it WILL be cold. A friend called me from Konsvinger earlier on and said it 20 minus...bbbrrrrr!!!
I tell you what: I'm a Scot and am also taking a trip to Oslo sometime soon. I WILL NOT BE WEARING MY KILT!!!!! LOL

Back to the S2, no, with that performance rate, you'll need an extra rucksack just for batteries

Probably just to Oslo this time. Recommendations: well, there's thousands in Norway, but Geiranger Fjord is not too far driving from Oslo and the scenery there is wild!
Then I'd recommend Lofoten off the mid-west coat. Songdal Fjord is also fantastic nature wise.
That said, you can find plenty of natural inspiration in Norway.
Are you going there just to shoot?

låter rimligt!

Jag fotar inte digitalt men jag har samma erfarenheter av litiumbatterier under kalla förhållanden. När jag är ute och fotar en kall och småblåsig dag så räcker ett 2cr5 (6 v ltium) ca 5-8 rullar mot 20-50 rullar under "varma förhållanden" Det är samma förhållanden på mina 3 kanonhus. Nu hör det till saken att vid aktiv fågelfotografering så står kameran på hela dagen och används kontinuerligt, kanske utan att man exponerar någon film. Men förhållandet vad gäller batterikapacitet stämmer någorlunda med vad jag upplever.

Am a salsadancer, well as a second hoby. So am going there do dance, for like 2-3 days and then spend like 3 days of taking pictures.
Why am going there? Cause the norwegian babes are awesome dancers, and really good looking, beside i get a free bed to sleep in. =)))

Jag skulle tro att det är mer de långa slutartiderna än kylan i sig som är boven i dramat. Kylan bör i sig kunna göra så att accarna minskar till ca 70% - 80% av sin normala prestanda, mer eller mindre beroende på skick och kvalite. Jag har använt min digitalkamera (Kodak DCS 520) när det varit runt 0 men det har inte haft så stor påverkan på antalet bilder jag har kunnat ta.

Testa och gå ut en dag när det är kallt och kolla hur många bilder du får ut ur ett acc med normala slutartider.

There are lithium ion batteries available in seize AA. My son used them in April this year on an expedition to Svalbard when they lived in tents for two weeks up on a glacier. As far as I know he still uses the very same batteries on cold days. If you want to know more you can mail him. He too is a member here, look up Björn Sjögren.

No. Not at all...

Seriously, at that kind of temperature I'd expect a significant (perhaps even down to 1/3)drop in battery performance.
It really shouldn't be that much of a problem when it's around zero or only a few below...

Skulle föreslå en extern batteripack!

Skulle föreslå en extern batteripack den förvaras sedan under kläderna nära kroppen då kommer du att få ut betydligt bättre livslängd ur accarna.
Dessutom så skulle du kunna testa med nickel cadmium baterier istället dessa har högre köld tålighet.

Inte för att det är en DSLR men EOS-5 borde ju vara idealisk i kyla då det finns ett löst batteripack som man borde kunna ha innanför kläderna.

Jag fotar inte analogt, men jag brukar göra att om jag ska ut på en fotosession så stoppar jag inte in batterierna i kameran förrens det är nödvändigt. Dvs, jag försvarar dem i framfickan av jeansen lr i innerjackfickan.. på så sätt håller dem sig varma. Jag har märkt STOR skillnad efter jag följt denna regel. Du gör likadant om du har extrapack såklart
